Isle Ornsay
Scotland > Highland Counties > Isle of Skye > Isle Ornsay
Located on the Isle of Skye at the start of the Sleat peninsula 9 miles south east of Broadford.
It takes its name from St Oran's Isle a small island just off shore from the village. There are remains of an early christian chapel on the island.
There is the Beacon of Ornsay on the island. It was built in 1857. David and Thomas Stevenson were the engineers. It was one of the first lights to have only one keeper as a result of modern technology. It was completely automated in 1962 and the keeper removed. Its setting is one of the most beautiful in the Inner Hebrides.
