Located on the Helmsdale river. Famous for its "gold rush" of 1868 when over 3 years gold dust was exstracted worth approx £6,000. Its other historical noteriety was its connection with the Highland Clearances, many of the families evicted by the Duke of Sutherland and his wife ended up in the Red River area of Canada.
