Killiecrankie

Located a few miles north of Pitlochry, it gives its name to a pass, a battle and a village. The Pass of Killiecrankie is today a beauty spot along the Banks of the River Garry. The battle was fought in 1689 between on one side the supporters of the Jacobite King James the VII under "Bonnie Dundee" and King Williams army under General MacKay. Although the Jacobites won the day, Bonnie Dundee was killed and ultimately they could not hold their advantage without his leadership.
The "Soldiers Leap" is a near impossible jump over the falls, said to have been made by Private Donald MacBean of MacKay's army in a desperate attempt to flee the battlefield after his army had been routed.
