Arbuthnott

Scotland > East of Scotland > Kincardineshire > Arbuthnott

4 miles west of Inverbervie on B967 on Bervie Water. The old church is very historic, dating back to the 13th century. It was in here that the Arbuthnott Missal was written in 1491 by James Sibbald. It is now held in Paisley Museum. It was written on 244 pages of vellum in Gothic characters with illuminations and is the only extant missal of the Scottish Use. It is in several sections and follows, mainly, the Sarum Mass.
