Scotland > South of Scotland > Ayrshire > Kirkoswald

A small picturesque village in South Ayrshire, it lies southwest of Maybole. The parish church was rebuilt in 1777 by Robert Adam. In its churchyard are buried Tam o' Shanter and Souter Johnnie who were immortalised by Robert Burns, who stayed in the village in 1778. Souter Johnnie's Cottage, the home of the village shoemaker (souter), is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
