A visit to Croick Church is recommended. As a new church in the early 19th century, the local people lived in the church grounds after being violently evicted from their crofts by "factors" operating on behalf of the landowners. In their misery and fear they scratched their names and messages on the church windows and they are there to this day - an epitaph to the cruel "ethnic cleansing" that occurred in the Highlands (and the Lowlands) of Scotland in the 18th and 19th centuries. There is an annual service in the Croick Church held in May, June, July, August and September at 3pm in the Church on the second Sunday of each of those months - otherwise, the church is open all year round.
