3 miles South of Edinburgh city centre lies the residential town of Liberton. Best know for the steep ascent on the A701 known as Liberton Brae. Liberton started as a very scattered village which comprised of Kirk Liberton.

Towards Braid Hills, to the west of Liberton likes the 16th Century Liberton Tower. The water treatment works of Alnwickhill is close by, this water works supplies south east edinburgh with its water.
