Limekilns

Scotland > Central Scotland > Fife > Limekilns

In west Fife, lying on the Firth of Forth lies the village of Limekilns.

The harbour at Limekilns was built by merchants of the nearby town of Dunfermline to handle line, salt, coal, and imports of wood, wine and glassware. Brucehaven Harbour was built to handle the coal trade, but later circa 1750.

Built by the monks from Dunfermline in the 14th century to house thier wine and other goods, Kings Cellar (situated in Academy Square) is the oldest building in Limekilns
