Linwood

2 miles west of Paisley lies the industrial town of Linwood. In the 1790's cotton milling was associated with the town, then in the 19th century soap and paper. Finally in 1961 the Hillman car factory opened and emplyed 4,800 people at its height of operation. The factory closed in 1981 and its site is now the Phoenix Retail Park.
