Moffat

Scotland > South of Scotland > Dumfriesshire > Moffat

Located amidst the charming Moffat hills, Moffat is one of the most picturesque and accessible of Scottish Border towns.
In the 17th cent., the waters of Moffat Spa were thought to have healing properties and people from all over Briton flocked to the town. Moffat began to grow as accommodation was needed to accomodate the 1,000's of annual visitors coming to sample the "healing waters".
Today visitors to the town can view the Old Well. There are plans to restore the old Moffat Pump Room in the town.
Near Moffat, the Devil's Beef Tub, a hidden dip in the landscape, used by the old reivers to hoard stolen cattle they had raided from their neighbours.
