Armadale
Scotland > Central Scotland > West Lothian > Armadale
2 miles west of Bathgate on the A89.
Its original name was Barbauchlaw, eventually being changed to Armadale after the town of the same name on the north coast of Sutherland. During the mid 19th century, the town developed like Bathgate into a major industrial area due to the proliforation of coal, iron, limestone and brick-clay.
Several large businesses thrived here until the late 1970s. Since then Armadale has had to compete for industry and commerce with its neighbours through the development of industrial estates.
