Arrochar

Lying at the head of Loch Long, Arrochar has Tarbet just 1 mile to the east. The name name "Tarbet" or "Tarbert" means that there is a small tract of land between 2 water courses and in this case it is between Sea Loch Long and Freshwater Loch Lomond. It is at this point that the Vikings managed to pull their longships from the sea to the inland waterway of Loch Lomond many centuries ago.

Today Arrochar is a very popular watersports centre with plenty of accommodartion in many hotels, guest houses, B&Bs, self catering and camp sites (see Ardgartan).
Loch Long used to be a practice area for submarine torpedo exercises so keep your eyes peeled!
