YesScotland.com : A view of Paisley Abbey

Paisley, situated 7 miles west of Glasgow, grew around Paisley Abbey, which was founded by Walter Fitz Alan in 1163 for the Cluniac monks.

Despite the original buildings being burnt in 1307, the current 15th century structure is most impressive. Restoration was completed in 1933, when surrounding streets were cleared to make way for the gardens.

As the largest town in Scotland, Paisley has been seeking 'city' status for the past few years.
