Penicuik

Scotland > Central Scotland > Midlothian > Penicuik

The bustling town of Penicuik lies ten miles south of Edinburgh and was developed in 1770 by Sir James Clerk. During the Napoleonic wars, Valleyfield Mill was used as a prisoner-of-war camp for French prisoners. A monument remembers the 300 who died there. A mile south west of the town, the ruins of Brubstane Castle provides stunning views.
