Sorbie

Scotland > South of Scotland > Wigtownshire > Sorbie

Located off the A746, Sorbie lies inland from Wigtown Bay, 5 miles south of the town of Wigtown. Established as a planned village in the late 18th Century, it was once famous for manufacturing damask. In the kirkyard of the parish church is the mausoleum of the Earls of Galloway, dating from 1743. The Old Place of Sorbie, a 16th-century tower lies a mile to the east of the village.
