The hamlet of Stair sits on the River Ayr, 7 miles east of Ayr. Within the hamlet are Stair House, built in the 17th Century, it has many original features and claims to have an association with Robert Burns. The Stair Bridge which spans the River Ayr dates from 1745 and Stair Kirk, a Gothic style church was built in 1864.
