The village of Brae, located 24 miles north of the capital, Lerwick.. Brae is a peaceful location overlooking Busta Voe. Brae has excellent nursery, primary, and high school facilities. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, sports complex, astra turf pitch and diving and sailing club.

There is a health centre, police and fire station, mini market, post office, two public houses and a 17th century country house hotel. In summer Shetland enjoys almost 24 hours of daylight. Pursuits include walking, pony trekking, cycling, rowing, sailing, diving, fishing and bird watching. Wildlife is in abundance with seals, otters, dolphins, pilot whales and a wide variety of birds including the rare snowy owl.
