Brora

Scotland > Highland Counties > Sutherland > Brora

On the east coast of Sutherland 4 miles north of Golspie and 11 miles south of Helmsdale on the A9. The town stands at the mouth of the River Brora, noted for its salmon fishing, and was, during the 19th and early 20th centuries a fishing port.

Loch Brora lies due west up an unclassified road which leads on to join the A839 Lairg road at Rogart.

Brora was once famous for Brora Tweed and is still well known for Brora Cashmere.

The town has its own excellent golf course with plenty of fishing (sea and river/loch), rough shooting and deer stalking - and, more importantly, its own Distillery at Clynelish where you can learn how it is made and how it tastes!

If a Saturday afternoon finds you with time on your hands there is always Brora Rangers Football Club and the Highland League to keep you amused!

yesscotland.com says:
The golf in some of these east coast courses is excellent and very good value for money - Brora, Royal Dornoch (a real gem), Tain and the 9 hole course at Portmahomack (Tarbat). The views from this coast are also superb looking towards the Tarbat Peninsula and on a clear day to the coast of Moray.
