Burghead

Scotland > East of Scotland > Moray > Burghead

Renowned for the "Burning of the Clavie" an ancient fire festival, at new year, Burghead is an old fishing village with harbour, lighthouse and excellent sands. The village now has a large maltings factory feeding the local whisky industry and as a result the village features in the Whisky Trail.

History around here dates back to primitive man with carved stones in abundance. The Romans were well aware of the promitory that the present village stands on and evidence of Viking and Pict activity also exists.
