YesScotland.com : A view of Campbeltown near the harbour Located near the bottom of the Mull of Kintyre, on the west side, this harbour town has changed little in the last 100 years.

Nestling beneath green hills and around its harbour on Campbeltown Loch.

In the past herring fishing and whisky distilling were the mainstays of the town, now only 2 distilleries remain and the herring has gone.

Today it has become a quiet resort for golfers, anglers and walkers.

The island of Davaar, at the mouth of the loch can be reached by a causeway at low tide, where you can visit the famous caves.

During the summer the town hosts various festivals celebrating local music arts and fabulous local seafood.

yesscotland.com says:
A great circular drive around the Kintyre Pensinsula takes you past some intriguing places such as, on the east coast Carradale, Saddle Abbey and Skipness over looking the Isle of Arran and then down the west coast through Tayinloan, Glenbarr (with its ancient abbey) and Bellochantay overlooking Gigha and furhter afield, Jura and Islay. From your base in the Campbeltown area you can also explore the southern tip of the peninsula, Machrihanish with its superb championship golf course and exquisite long beach and also Southend at the very tip of the land and the Mull of Kintyre overlooking Rathlin Island and the coast of Northern Ireland. So close that there used to be a ferry from Campbeltown but, unfortunately, no more.
