Between Dalkeith and Musselburgh near Whitecraig on the A6124.

Here began the downfall of Mary, Queen of Scots, whose army was defeated here in 1567 by the Protestant Lords under the stewardship of James Hepburn, Earl of Morton. She was captured and imprisoned in Loch Leven Castle from where she would eventually escape.

The "battle" was little more than a skirmish as Mary soon realised that she had little or no chance of success.
