Clackmannan

Scotland > Central Scotland > Clackmannanshire > Clackmannan

Standing at the A907 12 miles west of Dunfermline. The town climbs from the banks of the Black Deveron up a steep hill crowned by a tower built in the 14th century by Robert the Bruce.
In the town near the Old Tolbooth is the Mannan or Kings Stone. Legend has it that Robert the Bruce left a mannan (a glove) at the clach ( a stone) and that is how the town got its name. The stone itself is over 9 feet high and 15 feet accross at its base.
