Coatbridge's prosperity was based on the iron industry in the 19th century. Just 9 miles east of Glasgow with local coal mines, a canal link and Scotland's first railway combined to make it prosperous well into the 20th century.
Today much of the old industry has gone and the area is still trying to carve a future for itself in todays high tech industries.
