Craigievar Castle

Scotland > East of Scotland > Aberdeenshire > Craigievar Castle

Lying 4 miles south of Alford, in secluded, mild hilly country, this is the fairytale castle of old. As a work of art it claims Scotland a place in the front ranks of european architecture.
It was completed in 1626 for "Willie the Merchant" a Forbes laird who made his money by daring speculation in the Danzig trade. It has no additions and has been run by the Scottish National Trust since 1963.
