

DounreayScotland > Highland Counties > Caithness > Dounreay The site of Scotland's first nuclear power station. It first came on stream in 1954 and up until 1994 was suppling electricity using nuclear power. It is now going through a structured decommissioning. Its distinctive dome reactor building came to signify the modern, clean image of nuclear power of the 1950's/60's and 1970's for a whole generation of Scots. ![]() |
