Dumbarton

Scotland > West of Scotland > Dunbartonshire > Dumbarton

St. Patrick is said to have born here before being carried off to Ireland by raiders. It was also the scene of another historic departure, when Mary Queen of Scots sailed from here, aged only 6 years, on her journey to France in 1548.
William Wallace was imprisoned in Dumbarton Castle for a short while after his capture by the English in 1305.
Ship building shaped modern Dumbarton in the 19th century. The famous clipper ship "the Cutty Sark" was built here in 1869.
Located 15 miles north west of Glasgow.
