In the north west of Moray, on the A96, 12 miles west of Elgin, Forres is an acient royal burgh and agricultural market town which is located midway between Nairn and Elgin. The court of King Duncan was centred here in the 11th century.

The town still retains its medieval layout and as has many buildings/towers/ museums etc are still open to the public. At the east of the town is Sueno's Stone, made from sandstone standing 23 feet high, it is one of the most remarkable early sculptured works in Scotland.
