Forsinard

Scotland > Highland Counties > Sutherland > Forsinard

Respectfully name "Frozenard" by many a serviceman in the first and second world wars as Forsinard is in the northwestern corner of Sutherland on the main Inverness to Thurso/Wick railway line. This used to be the main rail link to the Orkneys and Scapa Flow.

It lies on the Helmsdale to Melvich road, the A897 via the Helmsdale River and Starth Ullie. A beautifully barren part of the counrty in summer but would have been a bit daunting for servicemen in winter.

In the past, was a popular fishing retreat and the hotel is still frequented by many an angler.
