Alford

On the A944 18 miles west of Aberdeen. Alford sits on the River Don. In 1645, the Marquis of Montrose defeated General Bauillie in a battle near to the old church during the Civil War era.

Two castle ruins are in the vicnity, Asloun Castle and Balfluig Castle both associated with the local Forbes family - see Asloun and Balfluig Castles.
