County town of old Clackmannanshire, on the northern shores of the River Forth. Past industry revolved around textiles and spinning of worsted yarns. Also well known for its brewery. Today mainly a domestic town with residents working in Stirling, Dunfermline, Falkirk and Grangemouth.

Lies 8 miles east of Stirling and 14 miles west of Dunfermilne. Notable buildings include Alloa House (19th century) and Alloa Tower (13th century).

Has its own Golf Course and Football Club, Alloa Athletic.
