In the past it was probaly the best known of the Clyde Resorts, with a peir and railway station it was a regular stop for the famous Clyde Steamers bring Glasgow holiday makers "Doon the Water".
It has beautifal views across the Firth of Clyde to Kilcreggan, the Cowal Hills and Loch Long.
Today it is still a popular day destination, on the scenic coast route from Largs.
