Innerleithen

Scotland > South of Scotland > Peeblesshire > Innerleithen

This is a very pleasant little town that at one time was known as a spa town. It is still a popular destination for tourists you can enjoy the quiet clear surroundings and explore the art, antique and book shops to be found here.
The Border Games are held annually and contain the "Cleikum" where a pegeant of St Ronan rids the town of the devil for the next 12 months.
To the south of the town stands the old mansion of Traquair, just across the Tweed which is open to the public and has an excellent restaurant. Traquair House is also Scotland's oldest inhabited house which has been visited in the past by 27 Scottish Monarchs. It also has an 18th century working brewery which produces fine ales!

yesscotland.com says:
You will notice at Traquair House that the main gates are closed - this is because they were closed and locked when the Stuarts lost the British throne and will not be opened until they return.
